The Benefits of Skiing

Many people take up skiing for the enjoyment it brings them. Rushing down the slopes is both exciting and exhilarating. Skiing is not only a fun sport, but it comes with many benefits as well.

The most obvious benefit is the exercise that a person gets from skiing. Skiing involves the use of your legs and arms, but it gives your entire body a workout. It burns calories and helps with weight loss as well.

Another benefit is that it gets everyone together. Whether you are skiing with friends or family, skiing will help you spend time with the people you enjoy being around. It is a great activity to get the family involved together.

A third benefit to skiing is there are numerous ski resorts that provide various other activities other than skiing. Many of these resorts offer snowboarding, tubing, skating rinks and even amenities like horse drawn sleighs.

Skiing provides a rush of adrenalin which is another benefit. It is important that a person exercises their fight or flight responses. Skiing provides a way to do this because it takes you out of your comfort zone and gives you an adrenalin surge. This surge activates your nervous system beta receptors which cause your heart to beat faster and increase air flow in your lungs. When this happens your brain is stimulated.

There are other benefits to skiing such as time spent outdoors in the fresh air, making new friends, increase in confidence and the pure enjoyment of the sport alone.
